The conditions found at the Triple F Ferret farm were horrific not just for what they were but the fact that something like this does NOT happen overnight.  The abuse, mutilations, and torture at this farm have been going on for months, if not years.

Ok, I know I said I was going to flood the page with goodies from the Kyoto show, but this was too much.

I have a friend who always posts his ferret videos, usually 2-3 a week. In following the chronicles of Kogane ("little bell", Albino) and Kotarou (Sable Mitt) as usual, I came across this one towards the end of summer.

Apparently, Kogane, being mistress of all she surveys, kicked him out from her sleep spot behind the fridge.

HUGE RESCUE in USA, 700 need your HELP

Yes folks, that is 700 ferrets rescued from appalling conditions at a minor mass breeder. They have all been dumped on one little ferret rescue in Ohio.

The rescue operator is asking for help of any kind, either monetary donations or adoptions or just plain simple help with the work load.

Anything you can do, even if it is just spreading the news to others who care, will be of great help to these ferrets. Every tiny bit helps in such a situation. Details are enclosed below.

Doug McKay, the notorious ferret breeder in Ohio who had been the subject of numerous protests and investigations over conditions at his ferretry, has finally thrown in the towel by dumping 700 (yes, that is seven hundred) unneutered, unvaccinated ferrets at a ferret rescue in Ohio. This is, to my knowledge, the largest single ferret rescue in American history.

The guidelines for adoption to be followed are:

1. A spay/neuter contract will have to be signed and you will be required to have them spayed/neutered within 60 days. Proof of spay/neuter must be sent to the shelter upon completion. Kits need to be spayed/neutered by 4 months of age. If you are picking up ferrets for someone other than yourself you must bring a signed contract by them.

2. Due to the large quantity, I cannot accommodate special color requests. I would prefer you take ferrets how they are grouped by cages if at all possible.

3. There will be no adoption fees, but a donation is requested.

I will be extremely busy taking care of these ferrets so I will not be answering e-mails other than adoption requests. If you are unable to adopt a ferret donations are greatly appreciated and tax deductible.

Ferret Rights in USA

Giuliani showed the level of his basic scientific education when he banned ferrets in 1999. That's OK. Mostly politicians have only a C+ level grasp of basic science, so he's not alone. It just makes it really scary to think that those kinds of people are making decisions about our health, pesticides, and global warming.

16th HAMAMATSU SPRING CHAMPIONSHIP

Official Pics and News from the 16th Japanese National Ferret Championship!!

I don't know whether the Spring show is always smaller or if the area was just not as popular, but anyway, a little smaller compared to the KOBE event. The recorded turnout numbers were as follows: 502 total entries in all classes with a breakdown of 195 in the Championship Classes & 306 in the Specialty Classes, and over 400 people. (Notice how the people are listed last. ~.^) Although it was a smaller turnout, the numbers of ferrets participating is listed as being close to the largest out of all the past shows. On the other hand, the online event coverage was definitely the most expansive to date and so were the amount ferret goodies. I will be showcasing those stores in the next installment here.

Overview:
There are many ferret shows across Japan, but the 2 main Championship shows that the AFA participates in are held in the Spring and Fall every year. They are normally held in the southern area on Japan's main island since the President of the JFA is from that area and she has to haul all that stuff around.

As the members of the JFA become more familiar with the resources available online, we benefit. I'm guessing that's what happened. At any rate, since they have expanded their coverage on the event, so have I. ^.^

. A nice 3 minute video featuring the Japanese & American judges, some ferrets from the costume show, and lots of human activities. And it is high quality to boot.

CONTEST PHOTOS
1st Place	Title: "Pon De Itachi"	Itachi means weasel. She's wearing one of the new, popular donuts from Mr. Donuts called "Pon De *something*" hence the title. The camera person writes that she was sleeping when this was taken.
2nd Place	Title: "No matter what, NO?"	The camera person reports that one time, she stole a dried potato from him. Every since then, she's been crazy for them and begs incessantly. She doesn't get any though. :)
3rd Place	Title: "Oh, me, Oh my."	The camera person reports this is just like a commericial here, but it is with a bear making that face. The fuzzy is actually just sleeping.
3rd Place	Title: "Check out that Nose!"	Wow. They are right. That fuzzy has a pattern on it's nose just like the letter 'mu'! It is a sign, for sure.
JFA Special Award	Title: "Which one is cuter?"	The camera person says, "It is just like a cuteness battle."

HURRAY FOR PHOTOS!:
I am really happy that they added all these photos. Lots and LOTS of photos. It really gives you a feel for what goes on. Hopefully though, next time there will be some better selections. I personally think the video from the 15th Show was better. This year the video encoding is too artsy in places - it blocks off half the screen - and there was too much focus on the humans and the human 'events' for my tastes. You do get to see the HUGE array of award ribbons Scarlett, Randy, and I set up the night before. No matter what, worth a peek. ^.^

Help Legalize Ferrets

This website was created by the group Ferrets Anonymous. Their fight to get ferrets legally recognized has been ongoing for many years, and this year they are finally getting everything together with this new site:

Ferrets in Japanimation - again

Ferrets or their relatives have appeared several times in recent Japanese manga (like American comics, but of higher quality) and anime (again, like American animation, but of higher quality).

It's a really silly series, but anything with a ferret in it, much less a TALKING ferret, is worth watching to me.

MAGICAL GIRL LYRICAL NANOHA

Plot Summary: Yuuno Scraia is a mage from a distant planet working to fix the problem he started when Jewel Seeds were accidentally spread around the world. In a failed attempt to seal a seed properly, he winds up on Earth in the form of a ferret. However, his battle with the seeds did not end upon reaching the Earth and he needs somebody else's help to seal the seeds for him. Takamachi Nanoha hears his telepathic cries for help and comes to his rescue.
It make take a minute or 2 for the video to load after you hit play. Just hit pause and wait for half of the bar to turn red before hitting play again. :)

The 15th Japan Ferret Championship Show (Kobe city)

Overview:
There are many ferret shows across Japan, but the 2 main Championship shows that the AFA participates in are held in the Spring and Fall every year. They are normally held in the southern area on Japan's main island since the President of the JFA is from that area and she has to haul all that stuff around.

This was my first time to go to ANY ferret show anywhere. I have to say it was really well-organized and everything seemed to run smoothly from my perspective, but then again, I was so swamped under piles of fuzzy-heads I wouldn't have noticed if the fire alarm went off. I didn't even notice the endless Yanni music that played in the background for hours upon hours which normally would have sent me looking for the nearest balcony to jump off of. ^.~

Since it was my first time, the night before I had an hour or so of training for my job as a judge steward. It involved translating for the new Japanese stewards, also. The JFA show was quite the microcosm of Japan--for every 300 Japanese, the 3 judges and I were the lone 4 foreigners, "gainjin". ^.^

Once Google took over, we knew youtube would succumb to corporate pressure and start deleting videos left and right. Now the question is...if I have a party and share my copy of SOUTHPARK or anything copyrighted for that matter, or they going to start policing me in my own home for that, too??

It reminds me of that silly pettiness not so long back (this or just last year) where the almighty Olympic committee said some harmless, fun Ferret group in Washington State could not use the term "Ferret Olympics" in their non-for-profit event because they had the rights to the word "Olympics". Corporate Greed--Offensive & Disgusting.

Weasel CRUSADER!!!

Aside from what it appears, this is related to Japan and ferrets. ;> After all,the ferret is member of the weasel family and I'm in Japan stuck cruising the internet for things to watch because watching TV in Japan is just like that scene from Clockwork Orange where they strap the guy down to a chair and pin his eyelids open.

MOVIE SYNOPSIS:
A rabid weasel seeks vengeance on the human race after it is accidently transformed into a powerful radioactive beast thanks to a mistimed crash by a NASA satellite! Seemingly able to regenerate itself limitless times, the robust critter becomes an object of desire for mad Dr. Sendam who battles with the government in a race to capture the beast and utilize its powers for dark and mysterious means. This first feature from cult director Nathan Schiff offers all the guts and gore horror fans came to expect from the great man.

MY COMMENTS:
I'm not big on gory American style horror (I prefer horror of the creepy genre.), but this is tolerable because of the ridiculously poor SFX which make everything look obviously fake. And the quality of acting will keep you giggling the whole way through, you're sides will be hurting the next day.

Wolverines invade Japan! クズリが日本に侵入！

Well, things are finally starting to settle down here.
And it was looking like I would have time to properly post something, but in turns out that the Kobe Championship Ferret Show is right around the corner! On the 29th of October, no less.
I will be attending, so stay-tuned for the results and goings-on from the JFA in Japan!

Before that though...

On the weekends, Japan TV runs two types of programs-endless golf shows and nature shows.
I turned on my favorite show tonite, "Darwin has Arrived", and I couldn't believe it! Really, what are the odds that anyone would do a show specifically on the ferret's wild and wily cousin, the wolverine. A whole 30 minutes devoted just to them!
