Temporary Site Down Time

As you can see, it continues.
Unfortunately I've been spending more and more time in the hospital and going from doctor to doctor. (The Japanese medical system in seriously scary. It is considered "Advanced", but that is only compared to the rest of Asia. Do NOT get sick in Japan. Or anywhere else in Asia for that matter. 0.0 )

However, I still dragged my broken body down to the Spring 08 Ferret show!! Not too many pictures from that. The hall was dimly lit and the atmosphere was subdued and almost sullen. It was a shock to me. I thought it was because I was feeling seriously awful - had to leave to hall twice to go lay down in my hotel room. T_T - but other judges confirmed that it was not just me. The one vendor I was reallllly looking forward to buying from did not even come!! The people that sell the super-adorable bags, aprons and shirts. That was a major downer on top of everything else.

ANYWAY, once I am well enough to sit up for more than 30 minutes and eat solid food again I will have the LONNNNNG awaited 07 Kyoto Ferret Show pics and pics from this Spring 08 show. Also, the I LOVE PET company was there filming so you can expect a video to be posted in the future too.

RESCUE SERVICES FOR FERRETS - updated

Sadly, most countries don't acknowledge animals as having any status or worth more than that of being a possession. Even in the US, we're still struggling to at least get the same minimal rights for ferrets that dogs and cats now receive. However, even if the governments aren't interested, you can always count on individual groups to step up and help those that need it!

Regardless of the language or country, if you know of any other international rescue groups that will assist ferrets please post a comment so it can be added. But before you call on others, the most critical thing you yourself can do is BE PREPARED!

(Ferrets United Rescue Resources)

Mostly an information exchange and meeting site. Has the potential to be a great open resource! Some of the services they offer are as follows: (clipped directly from the site overview)

The Ferret Emergency Response, Rescue and Evacuation Team F.E.R.R.E.T. will support and assist EARS and other humane and disaster response organizations in time of disaster.

* securing temporary or permanent housing
* transportation to safe locations
* supplies such as food, bedding, cages and accessories
* securing appropriate medical care
* providing disaster preparedness information and resources to caregivers, veterinarians and volunteers.

EARS (the Emergency Animal Rescue Service)

The following summary and comments are by Susanne Thiel, EARS' New York State Coordinator:
EARS (the Emergency Animal Rescue Service) assists all kinds of animals in all kinds of disaster situations. In addition to being able to respond to disasters nationwide and help all kinds of animals, I'm really excited by the opportunity to help get rescued ferrets the food, medical care, housing and other supplies they need.

EARS is currently working with the HSUS, ASPCA, American Humane Association, Best Friends, FEMA, the Red Cross and others to formally and comprehensively incorporate animals into disaster response plans at the local, regional, state and national levels.

EARS also assists with hoarding, disease outbreaks and cruelty cases.
