MF ferrets are sold in Japan, however it is rather convoluted to actually take a ferret into Japan by yourself. (Mostly because the American side does not keep up with Japanese import laws.)

I have been looking into pet transport companies myself this year - expensive, but safe and secure in terms of your ferret's health and monumental red tape.

I will actually be posting an article this January about that - some companies I've discovered. But to do it yourself...
You would have to be prepared to do a lot of work and a lot of tight timing scheduling papers and shots. That's the killer.
Theoretically, it can be done though. I could *TRY* to help you through the process if you choose to do it yourself, but your Best bet would be the pet transport company.

Thank you for all the info :)
Hmm, i wouldnt mind paying a company to do it for me. Do you have any idea what the price range is roughly?
I did some research today after you mentioned those companies..and the worst part is the quarantine..looks like they keep your pet for 2 weeks + at the airport and you have to go feed it yourself? Thats crazy! :(
Thanks again for your info!

Sorry, but I have not gotten to look into price range right at the moment as it varies not just in terms of type of animal, but also which country they are coming from and which country they are going to.

I am working with a company right now that does shipping internal to Korea and between Japan and Korea. I am quite pleased with their service so far. It is expensive though and I am shipping internally only.

If you were interested though, I could ask them whether they ship between the US and Japan.

Oh, and Japan does NOT QUARANTINE FOR 2 WEEKS. That is what I mean about the information on the US side - it is very out-of-date. I never go by the English version, but the US airline companies do so there is a lot of hassle and misunderstanding from their side. :P

I'm planning on taking my 2 year old ferret out of Japan (KIX) this summer. I am having a terrible time planning flights with her. No one seems to know anything about exporting a ferret. It can be done, but no company in a decent price range will help me. If you have any information I would appreciate it. I have contacted all the airline cargo companies, but they all work out of America, not Japan to America. Help please!!

Hi Jewel.

I just worked with an animal transport company shipping my little boy out of South Korea to the USA.

It is not cheap, but I far, FAR recommend contracting a company because of the problems airlines have in their inability to properly care for or route animals.

Case in point, this most recent transport. I can't say how grateful I had them to go to because from pickup at the hotel to landing, there were CONSTANT problems. BUT I had them there to keep track of the shipment and push or pull or reroute when others failed. (Delta managed to put him on the wrong flight even.)

I can give you their info and a direct email address if you are interested.

You can post your email here as a comment and I will copy that and delete so it won't post.

No matter who you go through,
Timing is CRITICAL so make sure s/he has all shots - distemper and rabies - updated or s/he will be sitting in quarantine for 3 months. o.0
